Visit Ažbe`s room

In cooperation with National gallery of Slovenia we decorated and devoted the oldest part of our house, a vaulted cellar, to slovenian realistic painter Anton Ažbe. He is well known by his famous art school in Munich in 1890`s. You can get to know all about his life, art and his famous students (Kandinsky, Grabar,...). We will also show you few studies of his portret sculpture, which is located in Munich, made by sculptor Mirsad Begić.

You can visit Ažbe`s room every day by previus arrangement.

About painter Anton Ažbe

Weak in growth and sickly Anton Ažbe held no promise for the husbanding of the big Ažbe farm, so his father sent him off as an apprentice to a general store in Klagenfurt. He escaped the miseries of an apprentice, however, by fleeing to Ljubljana. Mixing paint for the painter Janez Wolf, he discovered his true gift. The master recommended him to his friends, and Ažbe enrolled in the Art Academy in Munich. There he finished his studies, made his career as an art teacher, painted and partied in the Schwabing bohemia. He died only forty-three years old.
